about

Gosh I love this song. Its theme is that of meeting with someone you respect and is a mentor. Even in a romance. But there is a fragility and vulnerability in that status. A dependency on the part of the vulnerable. And corruption on part of the mentor. It ultimately self destructs.

It is a physically soothing song to play. The rhythm and picking. B chords always require a little extra effort from me because my hands are small. So when I puff up my chest so to speak and roll them out, I feel quite proud. In fact, I have learned over the years to overcompensate with my right picking guitar-wise because I do not like to look down at the fretboard when I sing and my left hand (well both hands of course) is not up for a lot of chords. Oh well. My singing and picking has gotten better

lyrics

Stalemate

Nothing to lose, nothing to win
Nothing to prove, gonna do it all again

You're looking right through me and you don't listen to me
cuz your mind's in another place
You're somewhere else dreaming while I'm standing her steaming
and there's nothing I can say
A little bit of everything and a whole bunch of nothing adds up and falls apart
You're building my walls but I'm out of the picture how long have I been in the dark

Nothing to lose, nothing to win
Nothing to prove, gonna do it all again

Am I getting what I give, am I too sensitive
am I fighting or giving up
Are you helping me along, are you making me strong
and when have I had enough
Did I pass your test and what about the rest
I've been waiting for months on end
Do I not appreciate what you're trying to create
I am stalled at your dead end

Nothing to lose, nothing to win
Nothing to prove, gonna do it all again

New site with studio work is: cecily4.bandcamp.com

This site is 4 track demos. Hi, I'm Cecily, and this is my project, the 4 Track Phantoms, a kind of diary of a free range singer, songwriter, musician.
I write songs and record them playing all of the instruments myself on my 4 track cassette portable studio. And reflect on the songwriting process, subject matter, and recording process.
