about

This is a poetic and beautiful song from Mark Lanegan's album "Blues Funeral." I strongly suggest you pick up a copy. It's really good stuff. I love themes like lost love and corruption of power, and this one's got a sweet mix of both, at least by my interpretation. This is priced at 0.00 so you can buy and listen to the original: www.youtube.com/watch?v=LoeWfAvGmko

Those familiar with this song will note that I switched up the pronouns to account for female singing. And inadvertently changed key to B and sped up tempo. Kinda bummed about the fast tempo- oh well.

Most of my focus last week was on the song "Down in My Dream." When I finished the backing vocals on that song yesterday, though, I thought I'd go for this one just for fun as long as I had the taper and mic all ready to go. It was in my mind. Learned and recorded the whole song in 45 minutes! For a quickie b-side of sorts, it might have come out better.

lyrics

Phantasmagoria Blues

You, my love, have given me a torn and tattered love
But I can hear the tolling bells that ring down from above
Thought you'd rule like Charlemagne
But you've become corrupt
Now you crawl the promenade
To fill your empty cup

And I'm free, I'm free again, one more time

Now if I found a razor blade took it to my wrist
Then you'd be in your electric chair because of this
All last night and night before
You stood on the pier and cried
But you don't want to turn away
for fear of going blind

And I'm free, I'm free again, one more time

You, my love, have given me a bruised and beaten love
But I can see the cold white light that shines down from above
Thought you'd rule like Charlemagne
But you've become corrupt
And now you crawl the promenade to fill your empty cup

And I'm free, I'm free again, one more time

This site is 4 track demos. Hi, I'm Cecily, and this is my project, the 4 Track Phantoms, a kind of diary of a free range singer, songwriter, musician.
I write songs and record them playing all of the instruments myself on my 4 track cassette portable studio. And reflect on the songwriting process, subject matter, and recording process.
