about

This is a breakup song about my first real boyfriend, written circa 1994, one of the first songs I recorded as 4 Track Fake Bands. That recording came out well and had some of my best guitar leads on it, but, unfortunately, no known surviving copy exists. It was once called "Aint Been working too hard." Oh well. And I still can't tell if it is an immature song or not. But I do like how these current loose and bitchy vocals, especially the background ones, came out on this recording.

Anyone catch the Soft Cell reference in the last verse?

Instrumentation wise, the guitars are a little blurry. Not sure why. Did same old thing, so I thought. And wood precussion instrument sounds like an unwelcome click track. I am learning and adding a lot to my fix-it (or fuck-it?) list.

lyrics

Nothing to Talk About

Maybe we're trying too hard
Maybe we went too far
You don't have to stay in my life
We just got nothing to talk about
You don't see me smile
And I'm getting ready to live without

it will never be the way it was before
there's nothing to talk about any more
We're not enemies but we're not friends
There's nothing to talk about cause this is the end

Don't have to stay away, don't have to torture your mind
There's never a reason to blame
We just got nothing to talk about
It wasn't a waste of our time
Just look at the heartache we could live without

It will never be the way it was before
there's nothing to talk about any more
We're not enemies but we're not friends
There's nothing to talk about cause this is the end

When are we gonna get tired
When has the damage been done
We don't mean what we say
We just got nothing to talk about
Take a look at my face (for the last time)
It's me, baby, you could live without

It will never be the way it was before
There's nothing to talk about anymore
We're not enemies but we're not friends
There's nothing to talk about cause this is the end

New site with studio work is: cecily4.bandcamp.com

This site is 4 track demos. Hi, I'm Cecily, and this is my project, the 4 Track Phantoms, a kind of diary of a free range singer, songwriter, musician.
I write songs and record them playing all of the instruments myself on my 4 track cassette portable studio. And reflect on the songwriting process, subject matter, and recording process.
